The Indian Astronomical observatory (IAO) is situated 4,517 m above mean see-level in Ladakh,Jammu and Kashmir.This Observatory-commissioned in the year 2002 is highest in the world.Himank situated near Ladhak is the world's highest motorable road at an altitude of 18,380 feet above sea level.
